Wrestle with Nature

If you live in New England then you know real cold. You know the force of a harsh winter. You’ve lived through a frozen over hell, and have come out the other side. New England folks are a hearty bunch. If you live in Massachusetts then you may be familiar with the term MASSHOLE. Where did this term come from? It came from the fact that we’re assholes.

You need to have the gumption to make it through a dark soul-sucking winter. Not everybody has the wherewithal. It may not be fun, but it certainly gives you an edge.

I say embrace the suck (to steal from our freedom loving marines). I train in nature, because nature is your best workout buddy! A good workout buddy doesn’t placate you. They don’t let you off easy. They make you work. They push you to a breaking point, and don’t care about your tears.

When you train in nature you absorb the energy of the planet. Gyms are great to push in a controlled environment. Is life ever a thing one can control? The answer is, no! There are too many variables, too many imperfections and too many things to juggle. We should train in nature (and all of it’s seasons) to emulate the uncertainty of life.

You may not be able to push as hard based on conditions. You will benefit though far more though in strengthening mindset. Your mindset also needs to be trained. That is the first thing we need to tackle. Where the head goes the body follows. So, grapple with the harsh mistress that is planet Earth. Embrace the cold. Push trough it. Conquer it. Make the cold your bitch.
