90's and Nature

Photo of Tasty and Ginger Danish circa 1992

I grew up in the 80’s and 90’s. I grew up before the World Wide Web, and before the mass use of smart phones. It was a simpler time. The cartoons were raucous, the action figures were fully articulated and we rode bikes from sun up to sun down.

We grew up in the 90’s boom. The economy was exploding. The optimism of the times was palpable. Listen to the pop music of the times, and you’ll hear it.

“I want it that way.” The Backstreet Boys sang back in the day. Yes, we could have it any way we wanted. America the beautiful promised the ride that would never end. Then, the market crashed. We woke up to the smell of dwindling opportunities. Oh, and how sweet that odor of desperation was.

Money isn’t everything though. You make money and lose money. I think of things that have seemed to weather the test of time. Currency goes up and down. Friends come and go. Nature stands triumphant. It may shift too, but it’s still here. And despite what you hear it isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

I have been getting that good money in on the same beach for about 25 years. I get older, and it stays the same age. It is also a reminder of what we have. We have in abundance.

Life can get overwhelming sometimes. When we can stop, look at the waves, lift a few rocks and breath deeply then we can become whole. Do yourself a favor. Go get it. Go meet nature for a workout session. Bring a friend. Bring a brother, sister or dog. Go get some good money.

Breathe deeply my friends. The 90’s may be gone, but the beach is still here.
