Everybody wants to come to America. Who can blame them? We certainly are the land of freedom. America takes in about one million legal immigrants a year. In 2015, there were 11 million illegal immigrants according to Pew Research. We are the ultimate superpower. We get a lot of criticism for being number one. I’m all about critique. We don’t get to stay on top if we get flat and lazy… that may very well be happening.
What I don’t agree with is bashing. I work with younger post college kids. It is certain that they have been brainwashed about the great U.S.A. They don’t have enough life experience or read enough to understand the fate of so many millions around the world suffer.
London had four hundred and sixty-five recorded acid attacks in 2017. Have you seen what somebody looks like after one of those attacks? Look it up, and I’m sorry in advance.
The 2013 National Crime Records Bureau reported 24,923 rape cases in India. It’s the fourth common crime against women in India.
6,000 gay men and women have been executed in Iran since 1979. I think the LGBTQ community has it pretty good here. They can get married, they’re on television and it seems that there’s more acceptance nation wide.
These are just a few little snippets of the world outside of the States. I didn’t mention Sudan, Darfur, Myanmar or South Africa. Take a gander at those places. I implore any of you who know an immigrant from a communist country to talk to them. More often than not they’ll tell you how living under a communist regime was Hell. There’s a reason Cubans in Miami typically vote Republican.
People may love to crap on the stars and stripes, and I get it. It is tough being the ultimate superpower. We have a lot of responsibility on a global scale, and we sure as hell don’t always get it right. Just remember, there’s a reason why everybody and their extended family want to come here. It isn’t just for the lack of acid attacks, fewer rapes compared to India, and safety for gays and straights alike. Everybody wants to come here, because whether you like it or not, the west is the best.
